I based this review on the excitement my two daughters expressed on receiving this book. One of my daughters had requested it on her Christmas list and I knew both would like a copy. Since they do not live near enough to share one copy I bought two that way they could have long distance discussions. Both have a keen sense of the spirit world and have had experiences that were unexplained. One of my daughters actually conducted ghost tours in the month of October at Fort Leavenworth, KS. There are many haunted places there on this military post. If you are inclined I say go for it!
This book is the perfect amount of interesting paired with the perfect amount of creep! My father and I have spent a good amount of time reading through this since purchase! Some of the stories are unbelievable! My only complaint is that some of these stories are repeats from the shorter version of this they did around Halloween time.
I thought there would be more information as far as stories behind the haunted places, but it really just tells more about the locations and maybe 2 sentences about why it is haunted. I was a bit disappointed.
Although beautifully illustrated, I found the writing and editing poor, especially for a National Geographic book. Example: people are hanged, not “hungâ€.
I bought this for my daughter as a Christmas present. I thumbed through it and the pictures are wonderful. Since it's a book from National Geographic, the photos don't disappoint. And some of the places cited in this book are just downright creepy. No wonder my teenager loves it.
This is a great read for all of you spooky loving readers. It has some great places to visit if you dare:)
Very interesting book.
Very interesting and there's tons of pictures. It's a pretty heavy book and I like to read in bed so that's a tiny problem but one easily overcome by having a "secretary" on your lap. You know....those wooden tiny "desks" that tilt up so you can see things better, like a small writing table. :-)
