Great book for beginners. Before I read this I had a very elementary understanding of the game. I knew all of the winning hands, I knew the betting structure in Hold 'Em (blinds, button, etc). To be able to go inside the mind of a professional player as he plays through every hand of a tournament is invaluable. I learned so much strategy from Gus. And even though he was playing tournament poker I was able to apply these techniques on a 1/2 NLH cash game and win several hundred dollars right after finishing the book.

Great book! I read several poker books but this one is simply the best. Show the mindset of a great hyper aggressive player on several different situations and considering every angle. You should have basic understandings of texas holdem poker like the power of position, stack sizes, image (yours and adversary) but even for the one's that don't have that knowledge already Gus makes it easy and practical to understand since you have several examples of how every single thing affects a hand.A must have! I have read it several times already. It seems a big book but since you have a lot of visuals you will just fly through it in a very short time.

What a wonderful book! Gus is the ONLY pro poker player to ever do this type of book (record every hand and give narrative to his decisions) the only con is this will RUIN your game if you try his strategies, lol. I was five years into a poker career when I read this and it destroyed my game. I've come back several times to read it again and it's always a great refresher into one of the top minds of the poker world. Can't recommend it enough.

Known as the madman of poker Gus Hansen is fearless, aggressive, and even considered crazy by some. Yet, there is a method to his madness. He has won several World Poker Tour Tournaments. In this ground-breaking book he reveals every hand he played during the 2007 Aussie Millions Championship game against 747 players where he took home a cool $1.2 million. You can look over the shoulder of this incredibly strategic player as he makes his unconventional decisions in tournament play. This is one of my favorite poker books. I have never seen another one like it.

Gus Hansen achieved fame early on in the World Poker Tour from his seemingly reckless and erratic style of play. As seen on TV, Hansen would play any two cards in position and apply maximum aggression with absolutely no hand and no draw. And somehow this strategy seemed to work: he'd frequently get his opponents to lay down hands as strong as top pair to his well-timed moves of aggression.But "Every Hand Revealed" lives up to its name: Gus Hansen's secret is revealed. As many poker authors have cautioned their readers, the hands actually *shown* on television are entirely atypical. The producers edited out all the mundane hands where nothing much happened and no one attempted any wild bluffs. Also, they edited out the entire first part of the tournament, where 95% of the players were slowly eliminated. By focusing on high-blind, final table action (and only the most unusual and exciting hands), we all got a distorted view of Gus Hansen's game.Here, Gus Hansen walks his readers through every hand he played in a successful big money hold em tournament. It's fairly clear that Gus, unlike many poker professionals, actually wrote this book himself (or had it transcribed from his voice recordings taken at the table). We truly get a look inside the reasoning process of a top poker professional. Gus Hansen is still a somewhat loose player, and very aggressive, but now we see the method behind his madness. More importantly, we see how he can make tough folds when he's in trouble.The only unfortunate aspect of this book is its extremely poor (or non-existent) editing. I can't blame Gus for a lack of fluency in English, his second language. I can blame the editors at Citadel for not doing a professional job in clarifying his use of words. Of course, perhaps the low, low cover price reflects the lack of editing. Either way, it's bad enough to slightly mar an otherwise excellent book.If you like this style of learning poker through detailed hand-by-hand analysis, I'd also recommend The Poker Tournament Formula and Poker Tips that Pay: Expert Strategy Guide for Winning No Limit Texas Hold em, both of which also walk the reader through the reasoning process in dozens of interesting poker hands.

It's a pity that there aren't more of these hand-by-hand records. This one is great fun, and Gus Hansen comes across as a very modest and honest chap; when he can't give an explanation for what he did, he doesn't try. But a lot of his decisions are explained, and those explanations should give most players something to think about. However this is not really a 'how to' book. It reads as a stream-of-conciousness; a first person report straight from the action. It's more like "Being Gus Hansen" than a book aiming to teach theory through live examples. So many of his decisions were determined by the particular way his opponents react that there are few directly applicable ideas here. (Reading this book certainly helped my game but only by widening my perspective on the table.) His game is so well integrated around his personal legend that he plays in a style that is fascinating to follow but which other players would not have success with (without a total game and image makeover). In an amazing postscript he agrees with another analyst that, basically, "Gus never bluffs". Most of us can't play that way, but here we can read about what it's like.

My two year old loves to watch the episode on Amazon so giving him the book was the obvious choice. He loves this board book! He has memorized the episode, so he is learning to read the book. When I ordered it I didn't realize that it came with two books! Great quality and illustration.

My favorite of the "If you Give a Mouse a Cookie" works! The illustrations are bright and engaging (so many things for a 3 year old to point out!), the story is cute and moves well, and it's a book I can read to my toddlers over and over again without getting sick of it. Great for transitioning from reading to your child to them reading it themself. When it first arrived, my daughter insisted I read "The Moose Book" and after we finished it, she immediately wanted to read it again (usually she's a 1 book, 1 time, NEXT! girl). After the second time through, she took the book over to the couch and "read" through it by herself cover to cover at least twice. My 2 year old will actually sit all the way through it too, which is saying something because he's usually done with reading after the first couple pages of a book.My daughter keeps using her socks as puppets. :D

This is classic for little kids because they really love the way the story comes full circle. Our children are around 30 years old and still remember how much they enjoyed this at an early age. We have given this book to parents with young kids many times and it is always a welcome addition to their libraries.Some reviewers have complained that this book sends a negative message about welfare, people expecting from society, etc.. I think these people have to lighten up - it is simply a funny story aimed at young children.

I ordered this book around Christmas of last year. Being an inside joke, I didn't think that my boyfriend would like it very much. Much to my surprise, he loved it. Now, this book is certainly not for a 22 year-old, but it is one of those books that certainly made itself a staple within your child's reading list. I remember reading this book a lot as a child, and it still holds a special place in my heart for those of us who never truly outgrow the need for being a child or being nostalgic. Children will love the illustrations and how mischievous the mouse will be while parents will probably shake their head and appreciate why it was so beloved in the first place."If You Give a Mouse a Cookie" is just one book in Laura Numeroff's collection of children's literature books and this, much like the others, does not disappoint. I highly recommend this for children who are learning to read books with bigger words and concepts, but its still great for the younger children too. Parents who are trying to find an engaging book for their children should look no further, this book honestly has everything.

Everyone should own this book! I bought it for our contractor who is remodeling our bathroom. Now he understands me a little more.

As the other reviews say, it's NOT a story along the lines of the Give a Blank a Blank series, just has the same characters. My toddler loves "Mah-Mouse", and loves pointing him out in this book. Also highly recommended (we've read it every day since Halloween) is Happy Pumpkin Day, Mouse! since it teaches feelings (happy pumpkin, sad pumpkin, etc.) and a bit of counting. Overall we love both of these books and read them every night with much involvement!

This book comes with If You Take A Mouse to School and I was pleasantly surprised by that. I love this book because to me it's classic and a must have. I make the cookie reference often and my husband had never read the book. So of course we decided to buy it for my daughter who loves it. She's too young to really interact with us but she can do the milk sign when we say it which I like. The pictures are nice as well and keep a 1 year Olds attention before bedtime which is ideal. Would recommend.

Two very cute books that are staples in any toddler and preschool classroom, now in convenient board book I-don't-have-to-put-it-away-from-my-teethers quality. Huzzah! The creators of this lovely set deserve a glass of wine from this tiny toddler teacher. Cheers and happy reading!

Very informative and interesting. An easy read and smooth writing style. I enjoyed reading it.

I read this because I liked other books in this series. This is the best in the series, so far. It's a short book, but chock full of information. I've read maybe a dozen books on this topic and this is the best. The longest and most informative chapter is Chapter 2, on how the immigrants were processed. Other chapters are good: Chapter 1 examines how and why people immigrated, Chapter 3 on hos immigrants dealt with delays and detainment, as well as rejection. Chapter 4 is also extremely informative, on how the Ellis Island staff viewed and conducted their work. The last chapter, 5, looks at how immigrants changed the system.On balance, the book shows Ellis Island to have been an efficient and fairly humane process. There were nonetheless a number of problems. The medical examinations could be intimidating. There was considerable corruption in contracted services (meals, etc.). There was occasional exploitation and fraud. There was some humanity too. The book includes some consideration of Angel Island (in SF), and describes it as having a harsher treatment of immigrants, with entrenched racism against Chinese immigrants.I found some of the information fascinating. By 1911 the place had translators available for 37 languages--that aspect of multiculturalism goes back a century, then. Despite mainstream racism, from 1899-1937 about 143,000 mostly Caribbean black folks were admitted. There's a widespread myth that immigration officials at Ellis changed people's names because they couldn't pronounce them--Bayor says this is false, that if there were changes they were made at the time of registering at the European boarding point. Most immigrants were processed and through in maybe five hours, with a portion detained for further questioning. A small portion were not allowed entry, for reasons (reasons varied over the years)such as "feeble mindedness," illiteracy (literacy could be in any language, not just English), likelihood of becoming a public charge (that is, going on welfare) or for being associated with anarchist or subversive activity.There is one error--I know because I cited this book in a blog post, and got called on it. Senator Pat McCarran is identified as (R/NV) when he was in fact a Democrat. This politician was involved with some immigration legislation that used Ellis Island as a detention facility into the 1950s. I don't know of any other errors. The photos are fascinating.

This is a life-changing book. We will be making some changes in the way we do things in our family.We told both our adult children that they needed to buy the book. We are in our 70's and a little old to implement this in our training our children now, but we see that our generation is where it should start, and we will encourage our kids to start taking Mr. Hughes' suggestions.

This is a good starting point in understanding how a dynasty trust can work. I am inclined to create a one size fits all liquid asset dynasty trust for the poor and middle class. Investing very small weekly amounts of money over 3 decades and letting it sit and compile interest for another 7 decades tax free will setup future generations for success.

Whether or not you have billions or just a nest egg or even a small family business this book is a must read. The sections on family governance and why valuing each family member as human and intellectual capital is so important. The concept that each family member should be happy and pursuing their goals is refreshing and key to maintaining wealth long term. My family has stories in our history of how we went terribly wrong and the next generation had to start all over again. If preserving a legacy for 7 generations and beyond is one of your core values than this is the tome for you.Full of examples and direct simple management information it is a book for the family library.

This is the best book I have read in years on learning how to achieve success and supporting a family dynasty. Great advice and I highly recommend it for families to learn and grow together.

I have purchased multiple copies of this slim volume to help higher net worth clients more easily grasp that at some point, your wealth DOES, in the words of Fitzgerald, make you "different." The possibilities and problems (especially the problems, believe it or not) do expand geometrically as wealth grows. (See Mark Zuckerberg's $100 million dollar lesson in "reforming" Newark public schools or almost any Powerball winner). And it's a well worn cliché among estate attorneys for a reason that "you never really know a person until you share an inheritance with them" But since "wealth" is relative, you really don't need a very high net worth to benefit from the insightful perspective this very experienced author shares. Regardless of how wealthy you are -- or are not -- if "Keeping It in the Family" matters to you, this is a very worthwhile read.

great book to buy if you are in a phase of life where you are looking towards your childrens future and the money that you have acquired. I believe we can all relate to this book in how we all have had or heard stories of how in the past our families 1-3 generations ago either had lots of money but somehow lost it all coming into our current generation. well this gives you good insight to why it happens

Studying this book and sharing copies of it with some of my cousins really opened my eyes to the potential in my extended family. We don't have substantial financial wealth, though there are a few deep pockets. We have several people in my generation who have achieved outstanding success in life, including one who's a major general in the Army and another who is a star on Broadway.More than that, we have six generations of people who are used to knowing each other and working together because of a piece of recreation property that my great-grandfather bought 100 years ago.That property has kept us together for 100 years but it won't be enough for another 100 years. This book got me thinking about what we can do for the next 100 years, and I see lots of opportunity to develop the "human capital" in this family and to back those things with financial strength.Most of all, this book stimulated my thinking "outside the box" and provided the springboard for family discussions that will let my siblings and cousins and I create something with the potential to keep making this family stronger for another half-dozen generations.For that, I think buying this book was probably the very best family investment I could make.

This is the perfect book to get started flipping houses. It is comprehensive. It includes all the basic information you must learn to have a shot at being successful. It also goes into great detail on many aspects of flipping, including such important issues as when to schedule each phase of work during the renovation process. It isn't the last book you'll need to read, but after reading it, you'll want to get started flipping right away. You will feel ready. The answers to questions you have and even questions you didn't know you had are all in there. FLIP is the closest thing to having a mentor that you can get in a book. It doesn't sugar-coat the business by making it seem like it can be done without any effort, but it does show that by preparing properly (and this book is a great manual to help you prepare), absolutely anyone can flip houses. I did find myself wishing the book was an iPad App because there are so many links to their website. Rather than having to print out the checklists and forms from their website, a flipper could just pull them up on their iPad or tablet while on the job site. Perhaps they're working on an App...

I am about half way through this book and LOVE it. We have rehabbed many properties but are just now getting into flipping them and this has made me think of things I never would have thought of on my own!

I'm in the real estate business and have worked with people who thought they wanted to get into the flipping business. I read this book from cover to cover and then used the website referenced within. This book gives very concise, easy to understand, steps for every stage of flipping. There's so much more to it than just buying a house and fixing it up. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone considering this as an investment or hobby.

I thought flipping would be easy, but after reading the insights of this book I started to have a new appreciation for those individuals who do this for a living. The book educated me on the in's & out's of this business, and don't kid yourself this is a business. If you are not committed to Flipping you will be broke very quickly. The book itself prepares you for the Flipping process and offers useful tips. Good book for a beginner.

Made the mistake of spending $2K to go to a Scott Yancey three day workshop where I could have just purchased this book and learned how to flip from A - Z. I am 3/4 of the way through the book and they provide a step by step process from where to find the property, how to approach the seller, estimating repair costs, making the offer, etc. I recommend this book to read, re read and take notes.

It is hard starting an investment portfolio and there are a lot of speed bumps, this book will help you navigate the waters.

First, I must say that this is so far the best book I have read on this subject. The authors seem to be very experienced and knowledgeable in the field of rehabbing homes. I am very pleased with what I got for $15 (or whatever I spent). I feel that with this book, I could successfully FLIP homes. My first primary home was a fixer upper, and I did pretty much all of the work myself. I turned a nice profit when I sold it, but I think that I could have done better had I known then what I know now.There was not a lot of information that was new to me, but the book did bring together a variety of related topics. Likewise, the authors presented a few smart systems for completing the project.The reason I gave this book only 4 stars is that I don't like the writing style of the authors. This book could have easily been 150 pages or less. The font was a little big, and there was WAY too much worthless text, random anecdotes, and stupid analogies. One page in particular was about Punxsutawney Phil...it wasn't until the third or fourth paragraph that the author crafted some way of connecting that to flipping houses.Overall an excellent book worth every penny (the authors need to stick to flipping houses though). I wish I could get my friend who has recently jumped headlong into rehabbing houses to read this book...

Gary Keller is pretty good at the inspirational stuff. Nothing wrong about it, but it tends to clutter the substance his books, which could be summarized in a few pages. This is not the case with this one. Lots of solid advise - most of it is common sense and things that can be dug out from around the web of learned from top agents, but this books ties it all up together. In the process Gary Keller brings it up to a big picture view in the context of market shift. Well done.

Any agent, new or experienced, independent or franchised, big broker or little broker, can benefit from this book!Shift is truly a guidebook for real estate agents/Realtors old or new, IN ANY MARKET even though it's marketed as (see the title) helping agents through the current "buyer's market". Many agents - with experience limited to the booming "seller's market" we experienced in the US between between 2001 and 2007 - were (and some still are) SHOCKED by the shift in the market and what that did to their business, income, lifestyle, etc. Gary Keller explains what happened (and how it's happened before and will happen again) and what the options are for real estate agents. A couple of years old but still contains good information. Great read along with Millionaire Real Estate Agent. Book gives you a recipe for building or rebuilding your real estate (or other) business by following the great list of tactics that authors put together. I'm happy when I get a couple of good ideas from a seminar or book - well this one was great as I've lost count on the number of good, simple yet effective ideas I've harvested out of it..
