What I liked most was how the invasion wasn't identify.The thing I liked least was the flashback from the one mentioned above.
The Minoans live in a very rich environment, they cultivated the land, made their own metal tools and weapons, posssesed a powerful navy that protected and made trade possible with other peoples. They did not just survive but produced architecture and artful wares they even had indoor plumbing. I read this book as an introduction to Minoan civilization as I am fascinated by ancient civilizations. I found it very easy to read, engaging and fun. Though I have other books on the subject I find them very difficult to read and soon lose interest. Though these books by Captivating history are short they are nevertheless rich in detail and facts. Another positive aspect are the pictures included in them. I highly recommend this to anyone interest in antique civilizations.
As with other Captivating History books, this is a top level introduction to the subject of the Minoans. As such, it does a good job of highlighting what is known about the Minoans, as well as all we don't know - which is a lot. I've been fascinated by the Minoans for years, so the extensive references will help me research the subject further.The book covers art, architecture, culture, seafaring, pottery, jewelry, conflicting theories on why/how they disappeared and what peoples carry their DNA. I learned a lot.I received an ARC in pdf. I wish that the pictures had been in color, especially of the frescoes and pottery. The text talked about the various colors the Minoans used, so it was disappointing to see B&W pictures. I've since looked them up in the references so I can see the items in color.
The book was still very interesting to read, despite the lack of information on the Minoans. If you are wanting an in depth book, this is not the book for that information. If you are wanting to read about the information just to know the little bit of possible information, just for curiosity, than this is the book for you. I still recommend this book despite the four star rating.
I wish there was actually more information on Minoan history and culture just as many others do but this is not the book to read for more information. It is short but doesn't offer much. Some of the pictures of their artwork are really beautiful.
This is a great summation of what we currently know about Minoan civilization! Like they say in the intro it’s ‘less a history and more of an interpretation and description of archaeological findings…’
This was an informative read about the Minoan Civilization. There were facts that you will learn that you might not have known before.
The book was an easy read. While not much is known for sure about this society, the author describes what is known and relates what the experts believe and also some of the contorversial beliefs. I read an ARC copy and received no compensation forr this reeview otheer than an enjoyable read in my opinion
