Can never learn enough about turkey hunting.
Having known John for many years, I can attest to the fact he was one of the best turkey hunters ever. If you want to learn about turkey hunting John was the man.It is with a heavy heart I must report that John Trout Jr, passed away on Dec. 22 2014 after a short battle with cancer. He was a awesome person, as well as a awesome turkey hunter, and hunter all around.You will come to know one of the best people to ever don camo reading this book, and I highly recommend you read it.RIP John.(...)
Definitely recommend. Very strong on determining what type of gobbler and how to deal with the situation. Strong on situational calling strategies by type of bird, time of season, hunting pressure, etc. Many examples of how/why patience pays off. The book is mostly geared toward the single mobile hunter but one chapter deals with multi-hunter tactics. Interesting harvest and success data is presented for time of day and henned up gobbler situations. Fairly weak on decoying strategies (author states that the extra setup involved hinders his mobility). After reading this, I do feel that I need another book on decoying - expecially if you hunt less acres and need to stay put. I'm sure decoying is a rich situational subject that is not touched on in this book.Nonetheless, this book will save you years in field learning.
