I don’t take time to write reviews very often, but I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to share how incredible the information is in this book. I have dated countless men and continue to hit dead ends when all I want is one healthy, long-lasting relationship. I’ve been told there may be a subconscious factor in my “selection process,†but that didn’t make any sense to me when many of these men are completely different from each other. Frankly, I didn’t believe that I had any part in how these men acted or reacted.Reading this book has truly opened the eyes of my heart to understand what’s been going on in my dating life. I now understand how my actions - subconscious as they have been all along, stemming from childhood events - have contributed to unhealthy patterns in my relationships.Do I think I’ll meet the man of my dreams next week? Who knows. But I do know that after reading what Robin has written in these pages, I am now looking more objectively at relationships and learning to identify my own feelings and behaviors as healthy or unhealthy. The questions like “Why am I not good enough for him?â€, “What did I do wrong?â€, or “What’s wrong with me?†don’t plague me like they used to. I understand where those feelings are coming from and how I can give myself grace to learn from what I’ve been through.I can’t thank Robin enough for sharing her knowledge with me through this book. I purchased this book not realizing that not even 6 hours later my marriage would end. Even in my pain, I kept reading and was able to see all the ways my marriage was over way before it ended. I am grateful for the information and tools provided in this book because I truly believe that I can now avoid years of hurt, anger and regret. I am now empowered to move forward without fear, knowing that I am not broken completely but just have to love myself more than I ever have before. I am going to take the necessary steps to become better for me. And whenever God is ready to bless me with a husband who can love and appreciate me for who I truly am, I hope to be recovered from loving too much and be ready to love him back in a mutually healthy and honest way.

In these pages I have read the stories of many clients of the writer. I have also read the stories of nearly every woman I know. From the strongest, most independent to the most damaged, this book has insight. I read it for myself and saw my daughter, my best friends, my most distant enemies.I'm not a self-help book aficionado but I couldn't stop reading and re-reading each chapter, gleaning more and more insight into why I do what I do, why I did what I did, why I put up with what I put up with and how to learn to focus on my own health, my own mental health, my own expectations and best of all, my own boundaries.Each chapter, once finished, was begun again. Notes taken, highlighting done in different colours for the different emotions and people coming to mind as the words came together and made sense.I'm learning. Each day I'm paying attention to what I am thinking, feeling, living ~ and understanding the child behind the woman whose actions can seem so lost.I love this book. If all self-help books were this good, I'd probably be an avid reader. But for now, I can read this one over and over again. I'm happy with that.
This book gave me an entirely new perspective. If you find yourself in a weird dating pattern or watching someone in a weird dating pattern, this is for you. I learned so much from reading this book; about myself, men, women, addiction and life in general. I never considered love as being an addiction until reading this book (and watching Being Marry Jane). Easy read, well thoughtout, great examples, and easy to digest.
I thought some read my journals, chronicled my life. I burst into uncontrollable tears which I held in for 30 years. My heart burst into millions of pieces. She exposed me to myself. What a gift. A new me for a new year. I sit it right beside my Bible.
