Who Were the Wright Brothers?   On May 25, 1910, Milton Wright took his first airplane flight. He had lived a long and busy life, working for his church, raising his family, and traveling. But he had never been in an airplane. Of course, in 1910, only a handful of people had!   Two people who did have flying experience were Milton’s sons, Wilbur and Orville Wright, who had invented the airplane in 1903. Milton had watched them grow from curious and hard-working boys into two of the most famous men in the world.   The Wright brothers built and flew their plane only after years of trial, error, and hard work. From the early twentieth century to the present, every single airplane ever built includes something first created by the Wright brothers.   Their invention changed the world. However, on this day in May of 1910, the brothers didn’t care about the world. They were just happy to share their success and joy with their father, who had given them so much support.   On a field not far from their family home in Dayton, Ohio, Orville Wright settled his eighty-one-year-old father into the plane. Then Orville sat at the controls. The two men held on as the aircraft slowly got up to speed and then took off! They circled the field over and over, staying in the air for nearly seven minutes.   During the flight, Milton leaned toward his son. Over the roar of the engine, he shouted, “Higher, Orville . . . higher!”   So that’s where Orville took Milton . . . and that’s where the Wright brothers took the world.

I bought this for our 5th grader for a book report. It I think is for younger readers. I am sending it back as the cover was creased. The book is for about 3-4th graders.

As I have stated before I love this line of books. I use them in tutoring sessions for kids who need help in reading. They are very high interest and are good for learning vocabulary, since many words are defined within the context of the sentences. Lots of interesting facts.

I purchased this book for my son who was behind in school with his reading. The book cover with what looks like bobble heads got his attention. He is in the 3rd grade and finds this reading easier for him to understand while learning about our history.

These are great books! Bought for my 8 year old son since we were headed to the Outer Banks this summer. He is an avid reader, so it was a quick flip for him, but he learned a lot and loved reading it!

The series of Who Was/Were is great for kids with a desire to know more about history. We've given at least 23 of the series to our 8 yr. old grandson. He devours them and then follows up with more questions. What a blessing for young minds...

Exactly as expected, fast shipping, well pleased.

The biography is complete and interesting for young learners. I bought them for students who learn English as a second language and they are suitable for them.

I like this book because it's about something I love inventing and flight. I would reverend this book for a third grader because some of the words are hard. I would give this book a five out of five because it was really good it was a bit challenging for me.

I have worked and reworked multiple recipes according to specific directions from this book. What I mean by reworking is not about my technique, I have been baking for quite some time, but on the different methods which Nicole suggests. She give you her ingredient list for her mock Better Batter flour and then to make bread flour out of it you will need to purchase modified tapioca starch from expandex and also unflavored whey protein isolate from NOW food brands. I made the purchase which costs me 30 bucks extra, pretty expensive.... I did several of her recipes so far and none have worked for me. What worked was the flavor and that was all, there was no softness in the bread what so ever. The breads will come out a bit soft of course but then as it stood in the counter the harder it got. I did the soft white sandwich bread, sour dough and english muffins. All of the recipes were precisely measured in grams and it was followed very closely on rise times. For instance on the sandwich bread alone I went from slow rise in the fridge of 12 hours to close to 4 days to see the difference and there was none except for flavor. I was able to have the bread rise to double the size in my proofing bucket and when it was ready I kneaded it a bit just like she describes in her video as well. The dough felt more like an actual wheat dough where it was spongy and so I put it in the exact size loaf pan she recommends and put it in my proofing box at 75 degrees and it rose to the top just like she said it would. I baked it according to her specs and sure enough the bread would come out very impressive, just like her pictures in the book. To me I love presentation with my food so to see a nice big loaf come out looking like that I was very exited. I waited till it cooled off completely and I noticed it was getting harder. I made sandwiches with them and found the bread to be to tough. It was edible but my stomach was not having it, I was having stomach pains because I could not digest it. I tried many times thinking the longer it sits the softer it might get, wrong... All it did was make it more tasty but still tough. I went as far as thinking perhaps its her recipe of all purpose flour being a problem, I bought the expensive flours that she suggests to buy and not Bob's redmill but it was still something I needed to double check on so I bought better batter flour and used the whey protein and expandex starch. I made the bread the same way and it came out the same way which was tough bread. I would love to do a video based on my technique and her recipes so that folks can possibly point out what I am doing wrong based on the average star rating for this book but I am very OCD so I always double check my measurements and temps of ingredients. My ingredients are all room temperature and water is never above 110 degrees and never below 105 and everything is measured in grams.

I am rating this cookbook 5 stars. It is more involved than her previous 2 cookbooks but just as straightforward and easy to follow. One thing that jumped out at me is that the recipes in this cookbooks take time. For those of us who use her previous cookbook Gluten-Free on a Shoestring, Quick and Easy: 100 Recipes for the Food You Love--Fast!that focused on quick and easy recipes that may be a shock. Good bread takes time. Many of the recipes in this cookbook are going to have a proofing time of 12 hours up to 5 days.Another major difference with this cookbook is that she uses more than just a basic all purpose gluten free flour in most her recipes in this cookbook. She several different blends of flour: gluten free bread flour, high quality all-purpose gluten-free flour, make it simpler all purpose gluten free flour, basic gum-free gluten free flour, whole grain gluten free flour, and gluten free pastry flour. These seem easy to mix with just a couple of things added to your basic all purpose gluten free flour. Which flour blend you use depends on the recipe you are making. This was slightly disappointing to me because I could not jump right in and start making some of the recipes. I need to order a couple of things in order to make the bread flour. There are some recipes towards the back of the cookbook that do use a basic all purpose gluten free flour.The cookbook is simple to follow with some photos. Each recipe does not have a photo but there are quite a few in the book. There are quite a few photos in the section of the book where she illustrates shaping the dough which I greatly appreciate. I have made the recipe for Glazed Yeast-Raised Donuts found in the book but I used Better Batter with not addition in place of the Gluten Free Bread Flour and they were delicious. I bet they would be even better if I have made the bread flour that the recipe calls for....oh well, what can I say I am a kitchen rebel!The back of the book has some resources to help you figure out where to get some of the things mentioned in the cookbook. It also has a wonderful index which I find myself using all of the time in her previous cookbooks.

I'm an experienced bread baker, but I have to say, this book is far more intensive than I imagined. For the novice baker going gluten-free, this is not the best place to start. The recipes call for special ingredients that I cannot locally source, and they require one to three days advanced planning. I've chosen several things I wanted to make and found that they wouldn't be ready to bake until long after I needed or wanted them. I hope that when I get to complete something, the results will as remarkable as the author proclaims. I'm not sure how many people will have the time and patience to plan in advance for that coveted slice of bread. I considered returning the book but decided it will be a helpful resource on my cookbook shelf.

Why didn't I discover this book in time for my sons' school science fair?! It's a great book for experimenting, learning, and then eating. One of my boys finds science boring and this helped to change his mind since he enjoys eating. My other son likes science and he loves to cook, so this is also a great fit for him. I learned key information about my all-time favorite snack/treat: popcorn. That food experiment is a great example of one that is easy and fun for all ages. The basic pizza dough recipe is good, fun, and works for several recipes. My kids had a blast making and gobbling up the Stromboli Pizzoli. We made a delicious primavera sauce. Having a "recipe" instructing how to grow your own basil inspired my younger cook to start seedlings that will (hopefully) grow to be used in cooking. I bought this book used and am enjoying it with my kids.

Returned - was looking for something with more experiments. Out of 100, there are only 20 experiments in this book, otherwise it's mainly simple recipes.

Not appealing at all. Uses margarine and recipes are not what we eat today. I should have studied it before ordering oh well.....

Good book, but not exactly what I thought it was. It has science experiments, and then a bunch of receipies that you can do after the science. Example, pizza dough has some science involved. Then the lesson is followed by a few pizza receipies

The concepts of the moving qi between the kidneys and the triple burner are described at great length, and in more detail than in most other books. Historical ideas about the anatomical basis of the triple burner and the channel systems, and speculations about the embryological development of these systems are also described. Modern anatomical correlates are postulated, examining the possible anatomical basis of the channel systems, extraordinary vessels, triple burner and moving qi between the kidneys, including detailed discussions about possible embryological correlations. Although speculative in nature, these discussions compile a wide and very interesting variety of theories that can extend our understanding of acupuncture. The clinical chapters of the text describe basic methods of examining the hara, the various palpatory findings and their general interpretations. This is followed by a large chapter on abdominal shiatsu, and a compilation of traditional Japanese massage methods. The use of hara diagnosis in meridian therapy and especially in the work of Dr. Yoshio Manaka are detailed. The last two chapters extend Manaka's ideas compiling a variety of clinically useful ideas and methods including the system of open points. These chapters on the work of Manaka serve as a good introduction to the use of ion-pumping cords, and Manaka's general treatment approach.

Overall, the book was very insightful. I thought MacIntosh did a great job painting the picture of the dysfunction, politics, and general nervous spiral that overtook AB. However, I would have liked to hear a lot more about the AB/Miller beer wars during the reign of The Third. That would have made for very interesting reading, rather than just saying they hit 50% market share. As for the Inbev part of the book, the acquisition happend very fast, but the writing slowed down considerably and jumped around without much intention. We got deep dives into the thoughts and feelings of a host of characters who had been all but absent before the end, so I found myself not caring about the perspectives of some of the random execs that were included (especially in light of how much of the book focused on the relationship between the Third and the Fourth). Could have used more "character development" if she wanted us to care more about their opinions later.

Very important book on the evolution of American industry, in this case how the world's most valuable brand with 50% domestic market share became vulnerable to take-over and was eventually swallowed up by a more nimble, focused, and global competitor. We learn how the Busch family made the take-over financially possible by reducing their holdings to single digits over the years. Maybe more importantly the family also lost their way, focusing more on inter-family squabbles, new wives ands girlfriends, travel, avoiding each other, baseball and zoos. Setting up a small JV with Inbev led to the elephant getting his nose under the tent and eating all the peanuts.The AB take-over story got almost no press as it unfolded in 2009 due to intense business network talking head fixation on the meltdown and recession. Julie Macintosh has gotten some great insider accounts and also did her homework with comprehensive reporting. I understand she has a financial background but has focused here more on the personalities, interactions, and agendas of the family, board, and long time employees. The hallmark of this excellent book is equal parts the intricate, detail-laden reporting that author Julie MacIntosh has painstakingly compiled and the masterful profiles she's written of this takeover tale's main protagonists. And, to do any book on this subject justice, the profiles you need to nail are those of A-B's father and son CEOs, August Busch III and August Busch IV, known indelibly as the 'The Third' and 'The Fourth.'What's she's put down on paper here is a fascinating take on those two. As one close source says to MacIntosh, what transpired between those two is 'Shakespearean...I just haven't decided which play.' Conventional wisdom would write a 'Crazy and Lazy' saga (as the two were known on Wall Street): that a mercurial, hyper-focused Third drove A-B to greatness and a detached, debauched Fourth let it fall quickly into InBev's hands.The truth is far more complicated. MacIntosh makes a compelling case that is was the Third's insular nature and megalomaniacal tendencies that led him to shun deals, go it alone and focus almost entirely on domestic dominance. Meanwhile, the beer world shifted under his feet: two forward-thinking international giants - SAB/Miller and InBev - emerged right in front of his dismissive eyes. By the time The Fourth took the reins, A-B's goose was cooked. They were just the last ones to know it.I listened to the unabridged audio version of this book. It was fantastic! I highly recommend Joyce Bean's excellent narration. It is 13.5 hours of pure enjoyment. It's quite a feat to have a female narrator do justice to what is effectively an all-male tale - it's a book filled with quote after quote (both attributed and juicy off-the-record stuff) in alpha male voices. Bean drops her voice an octave to deliver those words, punctuating them with a supercilious air while embodying the words of The Third. Well done.
