Well, this review is probably not fair because I never got to read it. My Amish neighbor kids snapped it up and poured over it like hot chocolate on ice cream. They absorbed all the info and commandeered their dad's workshop for the next few days to make bat houses. I got the first, beautifully perfect of cypress wood. I asked when I might get the book back and they said soon as all but 2 (out of the 7 readers in the family of 9 kids) had finished it. I think that means it's a 5 star book.

I bought this book because I was doing a multi-genre large project for my college english class and my subject was going to be about bat conservation. The book was very interesting for learning about bats but not necessarily for research purposes. What was not clear to me (perhaps it was my fault, was this was a collection of mostly stories about his past escapades. While it was fun and interesting to read, but I bought it more for real current statistics and information, not old stories. If you want to read a book about funny stories about studying bats, then this is great. Yes, it does go into a lot of scientic information about the studies, because it was not current information, I couldn't use much for my research. So if you want a research book this is probably not the best. I got an A+ on my assigment but it was due to information I gathered elsewhere. I do know a heck of a lot about bats now, though!

I can't get over how good this book was. When I purchased it, I didn't utilize Amazon's look inside feature so I assumed it was going to be a rather dry bat biology book. Boy, was I wrong. It's a fascinating account of a bat conservationists efforts to educate the world while saving as many bats as he can. A fun and entertaining read that I've already recommended to several people.

Great book on little-publicized subject. Many interesting anecdotes, as well as scientific information.Tuttle gives many aspects of bats' lives and their importance to our environment and even economy.We will never worry about living with bats again!

His travels and adventures make for good reading for laymen and scientists alike. Easy to read and very interesting by the founder of Bat Conservation International, the one and only international bat organization that's worthy of our donations. (I'm not including Bat World Sanctuary because they have a different mission, they too are worthy of our donations!)

Readable, interesting, fascinating. The only fault I can find is that it often has a bit of a 19th century colonial patronistic know-it-all feel. Like "Relax. The expert has now arrived. Stand aside while I fix things. Just stand back and watch in amazement."and I'll make it all better now

I love Merlin's work as a photographer, and purchase his calendars ever year. And as he is the foremost expert on bats, I am excited to ready about his work in the field. So far I am really enjoying this book!

Bought this to use in making a Christmas pop-up book based on the White Christmas movie. It was very sturdy. This book was a big hit. It had people had asking how I did it.

I made some paper doll books for holiday gifts and the books were perfect for designing the pages.

Used this to make a photo book of family members for my baby girl. It was great. Covered it with contact paper. It is peeling a year or 1.5 later, but I am not sure if it was the blank board book's fault or user error.

I want to do collage. This book is working out great. It's true it doesn't have rounded corners, so if you really want that, get something else.

Was exactly what I was looking for. Excellent to create your own book. We attached scrapbook paper and stickers to the book. The scrapbooks paper had to be attached with double sided tape in order for the book to remain somewhat flat when shut. I would not hesitate to purchase this exact product again should I need to make another board book.

An important documentary record of what few traces remain of the once massive and vibrant Jewish presence in Western Ukraine. The author's despair at the current indifference (at best) of today's Ukrainians toward the crumbling legacies of the past is heartbreaking. It means the book is not about how what happened happened, but about feeling the dimming yet continued presence of the people who once lived here. You cannot help but be moved by the despairing plea to not let an entire culture just be blotted out of memory. The town-by-town format is most interesting for those with some knowledge of the country.

Good book for understanding what happened during the Holocaust. Lessons to be learned from the past, for fear it may happen again in the future. Many people have family ties to the past, so this may also be used as a part of your history.

This book fulfills, in my mind, an important need of preserving the memory of the Jews of East Galicia, which were almost totally obliberated during the Holocaust. The roots of my father's family, that part of them where among the victims, stem from this region.

I have searched for years to find factual information about Galicia and the smaller towns surrounding Lwow in Poland and the bordering towns of Ukraine. This book solved the missing puzzle piece for my geneology study and integrated the info into the Ukraine of today. A must read for those with interest in post World War II and eastern Europe.

This book explained the extremely said situation of the erasure of Jewish heritage in the Ukraine. It is quite thorough on the towns that were visited. It is a must read for anyone with roots in the former Galicia.

Omer Bartov is a scholar of the Holocaust, best known for his book Hitler's Army, which illustrates how complicit "regular" German troops were in the extermination of the Jews.In Erased: Vanishing Traced of Jewish Galacia in Present-Day Ukraine, Bartov goes out into the field, to find the disappearing vestiges of Jewish life in Eastern Europe.Of course, what he finds are sad remnants. Synagogues barely standing, or used for other purposes; shops where Yiddish signs are still visible beneath the paint. Houses with the imprint of long gone mezuzot. And worse: mass graves poorly tended, or not tended at all, cemeteries desecrated or abandoned. All in all, a lost world, whose faint imprint is quickly fading.Bartov seeks to prove again and again how modern Ukrainians, and their government, have failed to reckon with the destruction of their Jews. In the tumultuous years since the fall of the Soviet Union, Ukrainian nationalism has reached new heights, and many of the heroes of that nationalism were anti-Semites, often collaborating with the Nazi occupiers for their extinction.It is a brutal and polluted legacy, according to Bartov, and it is expressed in the neglect of Ukraine's Jewish legacy. And it will only get worse.

As the world has come to learn about each and every depopulated Palestinian village and record their names and the Nakhba (All That Remains: The Palestinian Villages Occupied and Depopulated by Israel in 1948, or Sacred Landscape: The Buried History of the Holy Land since 1948 (Honorable Mention for the Albert Hourani Award, Middle Eastern Studies Association)) it is interesting to learn how Europeans, the same Europeans who value every inch of Palestinian history, obliterated, destroyed and crushed the Jewish history of eastern Europe, in this case Galicia. The book tells how the Jews were first destroyed and then their history, through neglect, communistic anti-semitism and finally Ukrainian nationalism, was forgotten and pushed aside. This is one of the few testaments to a vanished people. While German Jewry has been done justice in numerous important publications (The Pity of It All: A Portrait of the German-Jewish Epoch, 1743-1933), there has been comparatively little interest in the Yiddish civilization and the Jews of the Pale of Settlement or Galicia. Outside of the Annihilation of Lithuanian Jewry and Synagogues Without Jews this history has simply vanished. This is such an important book not only for Jews whose ancestors came from these places but also for all the Jews whose roots are in Eastern Europe and Russia, and for Europeans who might one day want to recall this vanished people who once lived among them.A very sad book that describes a hidden history that, while most recall the holocaust, few can see the physical traces of the once vibrant, warm, loving communities that were crushed under the Nazi boot and then erased to make way for modernity.Seth J. Book came from Infinite Media Express and was listed in good condition. Upon opening the package it appeared coffee had been spilled and soaked into the pages.I wish.Turns out all the page edges were stained brown from likely decades of exposure to cigarette smoke.While there are no missing pages or torn pages, the entire book is an EPA superfund site and will very likely go in the trash.I also received the sourcebook from Noble Knight Books and itâ€™s condition was as described.So avoid Infinite Media as their condition classification is deceptive.

A book very useful for the Rifts dice and paper RPG. It expands the game by offering more races that a game master might allow to be played. Also if players have characters from other Palladium books games, rules may allow the character to be played in the Rifts reality. In many cases players from other Palladium realities can gain skills and powers depending on their Race, Skills, Psychic and or Magic abilities. Those changes only last while in the mystically rich environment of Rifts Earth. Assuming the character survives or chooses to return to his or her game world if the opportunity presents itself. Many intelligent beings realise that the fact that they Rifted into the place by way of one Dimensional Rift it may not offer a return to their home.

alot of the stats and ideas for the Xiticix are never used in future books and some of the stuff lacks a reason for being , over all a good resource. stats on the buggers would have been better if they had say mdc for the head and not just arms and main body/wings.

I used this book last summer while traveling throught the Mississippi Delta and would give it more than 5 stars if I could. Very easy to use (step-by-step directions) and full of great information. Highly recommended if you're planning to explore the area and it's blues sites.

Some of the directions could have been better, like Robert Johnson's grave site. It wasn't really clear how to get to downtown Greenwood, MS, but we eventually got there!Lots of good information. Stumbled upon MS John Hurt's grave while trying to find Robert Johnsons, so that was a plus.All blues lovers and enthusiasts should get this book before your journey. Lots of good information about the area, and details about the musicians you want to know more about!

I recently used this guide on a tour from Memphis, TN, through the Mississippi delta to discover the blues trail. There are wonderful historical details and information to highlight any tour of the area. Since I couldn't possibly see everything, I will use it again and again.

Thanks very much.The opportunities to make an important American history connection that are contained in this book are inspirational.I just got back from the Delta (there's only one, isn't there?) last month (12/01) and had the opportunity to visit 8 sites. I drove a small car with my 15 year old son, and the information this book and my experience with the blues provided, prevented the mayhem one frequently associates with excessive exposure between generations from the same family.We started in Leland and went to Clarksdale and came down to Greenwood and back to Leland.While I expect to continue to use this book for years to come as my family and I go back to annually visit the in-laws, my sole complaint is the directions. I've driven from Guatemala to Vancouver and been in 26 countries, so I have a well seasoned sense of direction. Perhaps I'm overly pedantic but some of the directions did not anticipate some of the predictable confusion I experienced.While the directions to Zion Church in Greenwood were good, confirmation such as a green roof or easily visible from a mile away just after the curve to the right would be helpful. It was a lovely church but I was a somewhat self conscious about parking in the driveway. Fortunately there wasn't anyone else there at the time.The graveyard for Mississippi John Hurt was fascinating but the directions could have been a bit better. When a turn is called out and the driver makes it, I'd prefer to see right away that one should park right after 1.0 miles. By the time my son read the preceding information, before the distance,to me, I wasn't sure how many tenths of a mile we'd gone. So, do we turn around to the mail boxes or try to guess? We tried the latter and should have tried the former (it was getting late in the day). It was well worth it since the graveyard was fascinating in how natural, secluded and private the sites were. Thanks for the tip about wearing bright clothing due to hunters, but I wish that had been in a section in the front: Preparing for Your Journey. That section could include common sense photographic suggestions such as extra film, batteries, a flash and a tripod.I'd suggest adding to the Sonny Boy Williamson grave directions to make the first right after 2nd street (instead of turn at the gas meter, not all gas meters in the country are the same) on the named street, I'm going to guess Bruister (starts with a B anyway) Street. The locals walking that road saw me 4 times in a half hour, probably livened up their day.I'm sure I expect too much, but I would have liked some idea about the driving time between sites with a line item complete itinerary in the back with the driving time between the site you're looking at and the site on the line above. That way if you wanted to skip some of the less interesting (varies from person to person) sites, you can plan your day more efficiently.I wish I had unlimited capital and could pay the author to try to find out who else is buried in these various graveyards. Were they family or neighbors? I wish there were money to pay someone to go to these graveyards annually to spruce them up a little, secure lopsided gravestones etc. I'd want to see all the individuals in the graveyard get equal treatment.Go slowly and make notes in the book in case you ever want to redo the trip or take another blues enthusiast on the trip of their life that wouldn't be available if it weren't for this excellent book.

I thoroughly enjoyed 'Blues Traveling'. It came along just as I was planning my trip to the Delta this summer, so I constitute a sort of 'road test'. The book contains a wealth of information on little-known historic buildings and the like, and it's conveniently arranged by a very logical itinerary. With lots of little-known facts (did you know that the Great Wall of China is *not* the largest man-made structure in the world?), it's a great read whether or not you're actually traveling to the Delta. FWIW, I'm not in any way related to the author. :)

Since he was a 12 years old, Steve has had a passion for bluesmusic. He has listened to it, read about it, played it, and mostrecently, lived it. Residing and traveling in Mississippi has given bodyand soul to what was once only spirit for him. This book is anopportunity for anyone who can't be with Steve personally to get aguided tour of a region and its people by a man who can now call thesemusic sites "home". I am his sister. This is a great book.

If you are going south on a blues trip, you need this book. It is full of great info and directions to many, many graet sites of the blues. Highly recommended.

Excellent! We bought this book to take a tour of the blues through Missippi. We followed many of the suggested spots and even met some of the people mentioned in the book. Use it as the definitive tour guide to the blues.
